Got a call about a property I own in North Carolina.  Bought in 2006 (peak of market, unfortunately) for $55K.  A similar lot across the street is now on the market for $27,500.  The caller from Liberty Property Services said they would sell it for $125K to $150K.  Flat fee of $978.  They wanted a credit card first thing.  No way they could sell it for what they are suggesting.  I'm sure I would be out $978.  Has to be a scam.  I declined.

    13. Julio says:

    15. Brendon says:

I just received a similar call. A man with an Indian accent, said that I had files on my hard rive that was causing problems with my Windows operating system. He instructed me to turn on my computer and enter several keystrokes that would show me the files. At that point I refused and hung up. Also, just prior to that call, I received another call from a number (212-452-2211) that showed up on my caller ID only as New York, NY but there was nobody on the line. It appears that they are using predictive dialers to find the phone numbers of real people before making these calls. As mentioned before, do not talk to them or give them any information about your computer. In the past, I've asked scammers like this to provide a number that I could use to return their call at a more convenient time and they either hang-up or give a bogus number. Nonetheless, usually after that I never hear from them again.
